How to Ease or Cure Heartburn With Good Posture

Heartburn is primarily triggered by consuming food & drink that increases stomach acidity. The primary culprits are spicy foods, alcohol, caffeine, chocolate, and other acidic foods.

GERD(Gastroesophageal reflux disease), and general gastrointestinal distress can be caused by genetics, disease, a bad diet, and being overweight.

However, heartburn is also caused and exacerbated by poor posture that puts pressure on the stomach, causing reflux.

Heartburn is self-reinforcing. If you eat foods that cause heartburn, your posture may worsen from the demoralizing effects of acid burning through your chest and esophagus.

You may be able to completely remove or at least ease your heartburn by correcting your posture.

Your stomach has two sphincters, which are like your other sphincter. They are the Pyloric Sphincter and the Lower Esophageal Sphincter (LES).

When you have poor posture in your frontal chain, you’re putting pressure on your stomach. The pressure on your stomach can let the contents of your stomach, which is stomach acid and food waiting to be digested, out of your stomach through the LES.

Poor posture, like hunching forward, opens the pathway for pain and nausea. The pressure of leaning forward is partially responsible for the regurgitation feeling of food coming up your stomach.

The worst postural error is slouching and hunching. When you slouch and hunch, you put the mass of your upper body directly on top of your stomach. Your stomach isn’t made to carry that kind of weight or withstand that kind of pressure.

If you put weight on the toothpaste tube, the toothpaste comes out.

The average amount of time people sit is 8-15 hours per day. If you have incorrect posture, that’s a lot of time to let stomach acid crawl up your throat.

Desk workers must have proper posture as a lifestyle tenet, as all people must. The same goes for eating a primarily healthy diet that encourages progress down your many paths. If you are plagued with stomach acid and heartburn, it makes it more difficult to make smarter, long-term choices for yourself, due to the duress caused by GERD.

Correct posture should be a tenet of your personal philosophy. Notice we say “correct” and not “good”. There is no “good” posture. There is correct posture and incorrect posture. If you believe in the benefits of mastery and understand that the way is the same in all things, you will understand how important this is.

How to correct your posture:

  • Pull your shoulders back and let your chest open.
  • Always have a straight spine. Your spine is a thread that is being pulled tight over your head, so it has no slack in it.
  • Do not push your head forward. Your head is heavy. Your neck should be vertical, with your head supported over your neck.
  • Avoid twisting and bending at the same time.
  • Avoid crossing body parts.
  • Try to relax everything else. The muscles, etc.

Consider it a tenet of your philosophy to have good posture at all times.
