Being grounded means being in control of your Body, Mind, and Spirit(BMS); the three domains that make mankind.
You want to be in control of your BMS at all times. To not have control over a single domain is to not be here; you need to be here in order to move forward. Forward is the way to fulfillment.
This is the state where your mind is under your control, instead of controlling you like a tyrannical drug pusher who deals depression and anxiety. We want to control our thoughts and our actions and not be led by unconscious weakness.
Being without thought is being mindful. Being mindful means you have FULL MIND. Anxious or depressive thoughts are symptoms of a HOLLOW MIND. When hollow mind is observed, you must meditate or pursue mastery in Body, Mind, or Spirit(BMS) in order to be mind-full.
Humans are blessed and cursed with minds like water that create and destroy. Control the sea inside your head to create or destroy.
The first thing you should do each day when you wake up is your codified morning routine. You must take control of your BMS from the void of sleep first thing.
You must become grounded.
Below are various signs that you are in an ungrounded state.
RELATED: 6 Indicators of Being Grounded
Shallow & Fast breathing
No one breathes shallow or fast if they are breathing consciously, with the exception of specific breathwork.
All shallow and fast breathing is unconscious breathing.
Be in control of your wind at all times.
Unconscious Breathing
Be in control of your body. Breathing consciously makes us conscious.
Dolphins and whales are intelligent mammals that, by nature, have to manually control their breathing. This is a discipline associated with existence for them. We should carry a similar standard.
The majority of respiration should be conscious when you are awake.
Controlling the weather inside of you provides unlimited potential.
Make every breath deep and fulfilling.

Intrusive thoughts
Intrusive thoughts are thoughts that are INTRUDING.
How would you handle a physical intruder in your house? Intrusive thoughts are intruding on your mind, trying to get to your spirit because they want to hurt it.
Intrusive thoughts are uncontrolled, loud thoughts. If you’re in the garage woodworking or turning wrenches on a car project, and thoughts about whether or not your girlfriend is cheating on you, or if a foreign country will launch missiles into your garage are constant, thoughts are intruding upon you.
Pursuing mastery requires a full mind to make meaningful, accelerated progress. This means keeping a sturdy door locked to intruders, or even guests–thoughts that you want to have in your mind, but may be better suited for another time.
Thinking about things off the path while trying to walk the path can stall the wanderer and prevent him from moving forward to fulfillment.
The path is a purifying chamber that belongs to the wanderer and their necessary tools to pursue mastery, and nothing else.
Fragmented Thought
Fragmented thought, also known as unlinked thought, is a sign of being ungrounded.
Fragmented thoughts are like the pieces of a thousand different portraits stitched together that resembles nothing.
You don’t get anything out of fragmented thought because there is no complete picture.
Fragmented thoughts feel like hail; you’re being pelted with thoughts that are distracting you from what you should be doing in the moment. Trying to study with fragmented thought is like trying to study outside in a hail storm without a roof. You won’t study effectively until you deal with the distraction.
Thoughts should paint pictures that are useful for the body, mind, and spirit.
Your mind is a tool that should be used when it is appropriate to use and put back when it is not. Like how you wouldn’t use a shovel to organize leaves, you shouldn’t use your mind for tasks where the body or spirit are better suited.
If your thoughts are fragmented, ground yourself before you pursue mastery on the path.
Be cautious of systems that promote fragmented thought. They do this to keep you engaged and unaware of the flow of time. This applies to all social media and various forms of entertainment.
Improper Posture & Body Tension
The body can be ungrounded, just like the mind or spirit.
Improper posture is a sign that your body domain is not grounded. We want all of our domains to be grounded.
Improper posture is painful, but mankind is strong. Ungrounded humans will hold positions that cause them temporary and/or long-term pain, staying for hours, holding pain and not being aware of it. Sometimes they are aware of it, but don’t love themselves enough to help themselves.
Be aware of hunching your shoulders towards your ears, like a turtle trying to hide in its shell. If you hide your body, your mind and spirit may believe they too need to hide to be safe.
Be aware of your 10-12 pound head extending too far over your chest, putting heavy strain on your neck.
Be aware of any unconscious body hiding or soothing via crossing, holding yourself, rubbing, slouching, or folding in on yourself.
Hiding the body reduces strength in the mind and spirit. Face the terrors of the world with courage. Courage is moving forward regardless of fear.
Fidgets & Jitters
Jumpy, jittery energy is a sign that someone is not grounded or in control of their emotions. Constantly moving. Scratching. Touching the face. Touching the arms. Holding yourself. Tapping over and over again.
All of these are signs that you are not controlling your body. You must control the domains of body and mind from your spirit in order to move forward most efficiently. An out-of-control dog sled will move; will it be forward? No one knows. A trained and controlled dog sled moves forward.
If the body has energy that cannot be contained, there are two methods of dealing with it:
- Method 1: settling the energy. Settle the energy through meditation to “control” the energy and focus it on a task. Trying to be as still as possible can be that form of meditation. Once the body settles down, it’s easier to maintain the settled energy.
- Method 2: reducing the energy. Train the body to lower the energy levels and get rid of the frantic, anxious energy, while keeping energy used to move forward. Dogs need to train, or walk, or they are stressed; human bodies need to be trained the same way.
This is why kids have recess. To move and to play with vigor of the body so the mind may be receptive to new information inside of the calm shell of the body.
Many of the greatest minds to have graced the Earth walked when they could not think, so they may think again. They took recess.
Unconscious perception of time
The unconscious perception of time is good when pursuing mastery, but negative when pursuing pleasure.
Working on a project related to a path for six hours versus an uninterrupted video game session for six hours that has not been earned.
Pure, unproductive leisure time must be earned because it cannot provide fulfillment, because it is a pleasure. Leisure time must be used when the path has beaten us down, and we can no longer progress effectively.
If you play video games or watch TV, or other pleasure-based pursuits when you have the CAPACITY to pursue mastery, question your decision.
When you are grounded, you move with time, as opposed to being pushed forward by time.
Be aware of when you are entering the flow state when off the path. You can defend against pleasure-based flow momentum by setting timers. Consider setting timers every 15-30 minutes or so and take breaks to clean or organize. Cleaning and organizing do not move the wanderer down the path, but help remove baggage from the wanderer so when they are ready to wander, they may do so unimpeded from distraction.
Depression or anxiety
Depression is a focus on the past, of what has happened. Anxiety is a focus on the future, of what may happen. Both are fixations outside of the present that cannot be controlled. The present can be controlled. This is what you focus on to move forward down your many paths.
You have to be thinking to be depressed or anxious.
Have you considered putting your mind away when you are having thoughts that you do not want to have?
Thinking is optional. You can be mind-full instead of thinking.
What to do when you’re ungrounded
Wanderers need to develop an awareness of when they are ungrounded in Body, Mind, and Spirit(BMS). Each domain has unique solutions for you to regain control.
When you observe a domain is ungrounded, ground it.
All wanderers need to find methods to ground themselves. We have some suggestions, but ultimately, you must research solutions, add them to your code, and exercise them when needed.
